What to Expect; Scalp Micropigmentation Consultation

Your scalp micropigmentation consultation in Bucks County is where the guessing ends. Most people who reach out have been researching for months, comparing photos online, reading conflicting information, and quietly wondering whether this will look right on them specifically. An hour in the studio answers that better than another month of scrolling.

Here is exactly what happens, start to finish, so you walk in knowing what to expect.

Before You Come In

Your first contact is with Eric. He has been in the scalp micropigmentation industry for over a decade and he is an SMP client himself, which means the first person you talk to has actually sat in the chair and made this decision. He will ask about your hair loss history, what you have already tried, what you are hoping for, and answer the questions people are usually uncomfortable asking a stranger.

That conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. If scalp micropigmentation is not the right move for you, he will say so.

If it sounds like a fit, we get you booked into the studio in Bristol, PA with Jim Franks.

What Happens in the Studio

The in-person consultation runs about thirty to sixty minutes. There is no rush and there is no sales pitch waiting at the end of it.

1. Assessment under real light

Jim looks at your scalp in person, which photos and video calls cannot replace. He is reading the pattern and stage of your hair loss, the density of what remains, your skin tone and undertone, scalp texture, any scarring, and how your existing hair grows at the temples and crown. Men are generally mapped against the Norwood scale, women against the Ludwig Savin scale.

2. Hairline discussion

This is the part that decides whether the result looks like you or like a costume. Jim spent over twenty years as a master barber before moving into scalp micropigmentation, which means two decades studying hairlines, facial structure, and how a line should sit on a specific head. You will talk through age-appropriate placement, how soft or defined you want the front edge, your face shape, and your everyday style. Do you want a soft, receded, natural line, or a sharp barbershop edge? Both are on the table. Neither is the default.

3. Pigment matching

We use 100% organic pigments matched to your natural hair color and skin undertone, including gray. If you are still going gray or expect to lose more hair, that gets planned for now, not later. Future hair loss is not a surprise we deal with when it arrives, it is built into the plan on day one.

4. Session count and timeline

You will leave knowing how many sessions your treatment needs and how they are spaced. Most treatments are three to four sessions, each running roughly two to four hours, spaced one to two weeks apart. Scar work and heavy density cases sometimes need more. You will also hear about the complimentary touch-up session included in your first year.

5. Investment & Pricing

Straight numbers, no pressure. Pricing is based on the scope of work your specific case requires, not a menu. You will also hear about Cherry financing if you want to spread payments out rather than pay in full.

What to Bring and How to Prepare ‍

  • Photos of yourself before hair loss. Enormously useful for hairline placement.

  • Reference photos of results you like. And results you do not. Both are helpful.

  • Your hair at its normal length. Do not shave down beforehand unless we ask you to. Jim needs to see what you are working with.

  • A list of medications and skin conditions. Blood thinners, active psoriasis or eczema on the scalp, and recent skin treatments all affect planning.

  • Your questions. Written down. People forget half of them once the conversation starts.

Questions Worth Asking

You are interviewing us as much as we are assessing you. Ask these anywhere you consult:

  • Who performs the actual treatment, and is it the same person every session?

  • How many years have you been doing this specific work?

  • Can I see healed results, not just fresh work? Fresh scalp micropigmentation always looks good. Healed results at one, three, and five years are the honest test.

  • What is included if I need more coverage than we planned?

  • What happens as I continue to lose hair?

At Lasting Impressions SMP the answer to the first question is always the same. Jim performs every consultation and every session for every client. That is the entire model.

What This Consultation Is Not

It is not a high-pressure close. Nobody follows you to your car. If you need a week to think about it, take the week.

It is also not a commitment to book. A meaningful number of people leave the consultation deciding scalp micropigmentation is not what they want right now, and that is a fine outcome. What you will not leave with is uncertainty about what the process involves or what it costs.

Common Questions About the SMP Consultation

Is the consultation free? Yes. Phone and in-studio consultations are both complimentary.

How long does it take? Thirty to sixty minutes for the in-person consultation.

Can I get treated the same day? Sometimes, depending on the schedule and the scope of work. Most clients book their first session for a separate date.

Do I need to shave my head first? No. Come as you are.

Can we do it over video instead? We can start there, and it is a good option if you are traveling in from outside the region. An in-person look before treatment is still the standard.‍ ‍

I am a woman with thinning hair. Is this consultation different? The framework is the same, the treatment plan is not. Density work within existing hair is its own discipline. Start with our scalp micropigmentation for women article, then see women's services.
